Abstract
The optic pathway glioma is a tumor intrinsic to the pathway from just behind the globe through the chiasm and hypothalamus all the way to the geniculate body. It is not common and mostly benign tumor. We report a case with optic pathway malignant glioma. A 19-year-old female patient presented with visual field defect. Her vision was almost totally defected in the right eye and the medial lower quadrantanopia in the left eye. The brain gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance images showed a multilobulated inhomogeneous enhancing mass in the suprasellar area and medial portion of the right temporal lobe. She underwent craniotomy and tumor was removed subtotally. Pathological examination revealed the finding of anaplastic astrocytoma. Four weeks later, radiotheraphy performed with 60 Gy over 6 weeks and then, chemotherapy with temozlomide was followed. The authors report an uncommon case with optic pathway malignant glioma that was developed in the adolescence and managed with special attention in the interdisciplinary approach.
